Check the mounting areas of your plug in hanging lamp to avoid heat-producing systems or components like an exhaust system. Enough airspace should be provided to transfer heat properly. The lamp lens must be free of dirt and kept clean to help lower the temperature.
Fiberoptic pool lights are also available to light your pool or spa. These units have a small wall fitting (usually about 2" round), which have the fiberoptic cable attached. Most pools will require multiple light fittings to illuminate the water. The fiberoptic cable is run back to a light generating box which is placed away from the pool or spa. The light in the box sends a beam of light through the fiberoptic to the end of the strands located inside the pool or spa. One fiberoptic light box will typically operate many wall fittings, but, this will depend on the total amount of fiberoptic strands the box will operate.
Switch your light bulbs to Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs. Keep in mind that CFLs cost more to purchase, but they should last at least 5 years. Use the right type of CFL in each fixture use three-way bulbs in three-way fixtures, use covered reflectors in recessed fixtures, and use dimmer bulbs in sockets attached to a dimmer switch. Keep in mind also that fluorescent bulbs use a little bit more power when they are turned on, but then use only about 25% as much energy as incandescent bulbs when they are on. If you plan to make the switch gradually, start by replacing bulbs in the most frequently used fixtures.
Consider adding a dimmer switch if you don't have one already. Dimmers may seem simple but they can make a very dramatic impact on the mood and feel of the whole room. For instance, when set fully on, your lighting will be perfect for those every day vanity tasks, such as shaving or makeup. But turn the dimmer down just a bit and you'll have soft, gentle lighting for a more romantic or relaxing soak in the bath.
